File system starts out with all or most of its files contiguous, and becomes more and more fragmented as a result of the file creation and deletion over the time. Thus files and their parts become spread all over the hard disk, which follows the delays in the hard disk work and further lower performance.
Total Defrag 2009[/b] is a new comprehensive product for total file system defragmentation and optimization. Built on original Paragon technologies, it performs complete low-level defragmentation that provides almost zero fragmentation level.
The major differences of Total Defrag 2009 from the other defragmentation utilities are the following:
-
Disk monopoly access mode - Total Defrag 2009 uses monopoly access in order to prevent the system from attempting to move already defragmented blocks.
-
System core components optimization - Using the same monopoly access mode, Paragon Total Defrag 2009 acquires access to all core system components system files, registry, page file, etc.
-
Defrag and size modification of the MFT - Paragon Total Defrag 2009 can defragment and change the size of Master File Table (MFT). This directly impacts the performance of the file system itself, since all file operations go through MFT and its location and size can save significant time for each read-write file operation.
The product supports all modern operating systems (Windows 2000/ XP/Vista) and FAT32/NTFS file systems. The product can work in boot-time, running from the special bootable CD. Defragging a hard drive from a boot CD excludes the influence of operating system processes on defragmentation, but also allows the application to perform defragmentation on almost full hard drives.
Here you can find the full list of Paragon Total Defrag 2009 features:
- Online/Offline defragmentation of disks/volumes including RAID systems (Online defragmentation is possible for non-system disks/volumes only).
- Defragmentation of GPT disks as well as MBR disks.
- Defragmentation of dynamic volumes.
- Two defragmentation modes: Fast and Safe. Safe Mode is slower but it protects your data in case of a power failure during defragmentation.
- User-friendly interface. Easily understood icons accompany all functions of the program.
- 27 different defragmentation strategies for optimal speed increase. A properly chosen strategy allows setting the procedure in full accordance with the user needs. Your choice might depend on size of using files, a number of directories and a frequency of file updates.
- Unique low-level file system defragmentation and optimization algorithms, which gives the ability to operate disks of different file systems.
- Defragmentation of the Master File Table (MFT) and system metadata, which usually are not available for standard system utilities (although their optimization increases the file system performance).
- Defragmentation of files that are located on USB 2.0 and IEEE 1394 (Fire Wire) drives (fixed drives only, not removable ones).
- Low free space defragmentation (less 1% free space required), what lets you defragment almost full disks.
- Detailed file fragmentation statistics on any of partitions. The user can analyze the file allocation with a map where a file structure is represented in a bright graphical form.
- Exhaustive reports about every defragmentation procedure with the ability to save it on a disk for the further analysis.
